Important:
Properly dimensioned solar heating systems offer the best
guarantee for satisfactory operation. Knowing a
household's hot water consumption is required when finding the
proper dimensions for the thermal solar system. A tip for
deciding the dimensions for a small solar domestic hot water heating system: daily
hot water consumption of 40 litres per person (at 45°C) yields
a collector surface of
by 1.5 m² per person. For
each m² of solar collector you need a min of 50 litres of water
storage.
Installation:
In most cases there are no problems installing a solar thermal
system to existing homes.
Finding space for the solar collectors (size
of AS2.4 collectors 1.01m X 2.4m) they could
be on your roof (roof mounted or roof integrated), on
a wall (wall mounted installation), or even if you have space on
the ground or on a flat roof
(free standing installation).
Next would be the
right orientation for the collectors they will work best facing south but
will also work facing s- east, s- west or even east or west. The inclination >
should be between 30º and
60º.
The solar storage tank:
We would advise you strongly to change your existing
copper cylinder for a purpose built solar storage tank.
Value for your money and for pay-back time are solar thermal system that would supply 60
-70% of your domestic hot water during the year ( wintertime
15-20% and in summertime 80-90%).
If you also require*solar space heating, this system could
supply up to 25% of the energy required for your space heating
depending of course on the building and heating system.

Why pay more for imported bad pellets if you can get better home made
pellets cheaper?

2004 Irish Budget & Renewable Energy
The Financial Act 2004 had two items of particular interest to renewable energy:
Relief 486B for investment in renewable energy is extended to 31st December 2006
Bio-fuels are exempt from mineral tax.
